UGC ad basics

What is a UGC-style ad?

A UGC-style ad copies the look of customer content without being made by a customer. A paid creator, or an AI presenter, films a selfie-style video from a brand brief, and the brand owns the rights to run it as an ad. Almost every "UGC ad" you see in feeds today is UGC-style.

Why brands commission it instead of waiting for real UGC

Real customer videos are valuable but random: you can't choose the angle, the length or the opening line. UGC-style production lets a brand decide the hook, the problem it leads with and the claims it makes, then order several versions to test. That control is what makes it work for paid social, where most ads need many variations before one wins.

The honesty line

A UGC-style ad is still an ad. The presenter can describe the product and share an honest experience, but they shouldn't claim to be a long-time customer, a doctor or anyone they're not. The FTC's 2024 rule bans fake testimonials, including ones that misrepresent who is speaking. Running the video from your ad account already labels it as sponsored.

ScrollStop Labs scripts and produces UGC-style video ads with AI presenters for DTC brands. You can see spec examples, with the hook behind each one, on our work page.
