Do UGC ads work?
Often, yes. In Motion's 2026 benchmark of 578,750 Meta creatives, UGC had a 7.56% hit rate (share of ads that became top spenders) against roughly 5% across all creatives. Results still depend on the hook, the offer and testing volume: most individual ads, UGC or not, never become winners.
What the benchmark data says
Motion's Creative Benchmarks 2026 looked at 578,750 Meta ad creatives. It counted an ad as a "winner" if it spent at least 10 times the account's median ad, with a $500 floor (definition). By that measure:
- About 5% of all creatives became winners.
- 7.56% of UGC creatives did, roughly 1 in 13.
Spend-based winners are a proxy for performance, because ad platforms put budget behind ads that convert. It isn't a direct measure of profit in your account.
When UGC ads work well
- Products that are easy to show in daily use: skincare, supplements, pet, food, gadgets.
- Accounts that can test several versions a week instead of betting on one ad.
- Offers that are clear in one sentence.
When they struggle
- A weak offer or landing page. Creative can't fix a product people don't want at that price.
- Generic scripts that sound like any other brand.
- Too few variations: with a hit rate near 1 in 13, testing two or three ads often finds nothing.
How to judge your own results
Use hook rate to check the opening, click-through to check interest, and cost per purchase to decide. Judge each ad against others in the same campaign and audience.
ScrollStop Labs scripts and produces UGC-style video ads with AI presenters for DTC brands. You can see spec examples, with the hook behind each one, on our work page.
