Are Spark Ads worth it?
Often, for TikTok. Spark Ads run as an organic post, so likes, comments and follows stay on the post, and creator-handle ads can feel more native. The downsides are dependence on the creator keeping the post and authorisation live, and less flexibility than uploading files. Test them against standard in-feed ads.
The advantages
- Engagement stays on the post. TikTok says views, likes, comments, shares and follows gained during the boost are credited to the original organic post.
- Native look: the ad shows a real account handle, which can feel less like an ad.
- Creator credibility: sparking a creator's post borrows their identity, with permission.
- Lasting effect: the post keeps its engagement after the campaign ends.
The drawbacks
- Dependence on the creator: the ad stops if the authorisation expires.
- Less editing control: TikTok says the display name and caption come from the organic post and can't be edited in Ads Manager.
- Extra cost: creators may charge for authorisation.
- Slower iteration: each variation needs its own organic post.
When they're worth it
When a creator post is already performing organically, when the creator's handle adds trust, or when you're scaling a proven winner. For high-volume hook testing, standard in-feed ads uploaded straight to Ads Manager are simpler.
How to decide
Run the same video as a Spark Ad and as a standard in-feed ad in the same campaign and compare cost per purchase.
