How much do UGC usage rights cost?
Usage rights are often priced on top of the base video fee. Many creators quote base rates for organic use only and charge extra for paid ads, longer license periods, whitelisting or perpetual rights. Some marketplaces, such as Billo, include usage rights in the per-video price, so always compare all-in costs.
How rights are usually priced
Many independent creators quote a base rate for organic use (posting on the brand's own social accounts) and add a fee for paid usage. The add-on depends on:
- Channel: organic only, paid ads, website, email, TV.
- Duration: 30 days, 3, 6 or 12 months, or perpetual.
- Whitelisting: running ads from the creator's own handle usually costs extra.
- Exclusivity: stopping the creator from working with competitors.
There's no standard rate card for these fees; they're negotiated. Get every term in writing before production.
When rights are included
Some marketplaces bundle them. Billo says its per-video price includes usage rights, with partnership ads as an add-on. Insense structures pricing as a platform plan plus creator payments and a fee, so check each creator's terms. Agencies and studios usually include rights for the ads they deliver; confirm the duration and channels.
How to avoid paying twice
- Agree paid-usage rights in the first contract, not after an ad wins.
- Ask for the duration you'll realistically need; a winning ad can run for months.
- Compare all-in prices across options, since a low base rate plus rights can cost more than a bundle.
For reference, our own Test Pack is $149 for 3 finished ads with 9 hook versions in total, about $50 per ad. Details are on our pricing.
