What are the different styles of UGC ads?
Common UGC ad styles are the talking-head testimonial, problem-solution, unboxing, "day in my life" routine, before-and-after (where claims allow), myth bust, product demo, side-by-side comparison, reaction or "green screen" commentary, and FAQ answer. Most brands test three or four styles before doubling down on the one that wins.
Ten styles and when to use them
| Style | Best for |
|---|---|
| Talking-head testimonial | Building trust with an honest personal experience |
| Problem-solution | Products that fix a clear, familiar frustration |
| Unboxing | Giftable products and premium packaging |
| Routine / "day in my life" | Daily-use products: skincare, supplements, coffee |
| Before and after | Visible results, only where claims are supported |
| Myth bust | Categories full of misconceptions |
| Product demo | Gadgets and anything with a "how it works" |
| Comparison | Switching customers from an alternative |
| Reaction / green screen | Responding to a review, comment or trend |
| FAQ answer | Retargeting people who already know the product |
How to pick your first three
Start with the style that matches how customers describe the product in reviews. If they talk about a problem, lead with problem-solution. If they talk about how it fits their day, use a routine. Add one contrasting style, such as a myth bust or comparison, so the test covers genuinely different angles rather than three versions of the same idea.
Style vs hook
A style is the structure of the whole ad. The hook is only its first few seconds. Test styles to find the right angle, then test hooks within the winning style.
ScrollStop Labs scripts and produces UGC-style video ads with AI presenters for DTC brands. You can see spec examples, with the hook behind each one, on our work page.
