UGC ad rules: rights, disclosure, AI labels.

General information, not legal advice. Rules differ by country and platform; check the linked primary sources and your own counsel for anything specific. Each question below has its own page with a direct answer, detail and sources.

What are UGC usage rights?

Usage rights are the license a creator gives a brand to use their content.

Who owns UGC content made for my brand?

It depends on the contract. Creators own copyright by default; brands get only the rights the agreement grants.

Also answers: What legal rights apply to UGC content?

Do UGC ads need to be disclosed?

Yes, when there's a paid relationship. Ads run from your ad account are already labelled as sponsored.

Do AI UGC ads need a label?

Often, yes. TikTok requires labels on realistic AI-generated video and audio, and Meta labels some AI content. Labelling is the safe default.

What claims can a UGC ad make?

Only claims the brand can substantiate, usually what the label or product page already supports.
